Weekend Sweep: Penguins Continue Hot Streak

After having a 6 game win streak snapped last week by division foe New Jersey, the Pittsburgh Penguins found themselves looking at a crucial weekend against the Detroit Red Wings and New York Rangers.

The penguins have spent the better part of the last 2 months fighting for playoff positioning with both teams.  A bad weekend would've made the elation of winning 6 in a row disappear immediately and the potential of missing the playoffs seem very real.

Fortunately the penguins stepped up routing the Red Wings 7-2 and pulling off a dramatic 3-2 OT win against the Rangers last night.  Coming away with 4 points this weekend further distanced the penguins from the 7 and 8 spots in the conference and keeps the possibility of passing the Rangers for the 2nd spot in the Metropolitan Division alive.

With 7 games remaining in the season it will be spectacular drama to see how the Eastern Conference playoff picture unfolds and I'm excited to watch.

  1. The Penguins are really hot right now and a contender for the Stanley Cup. If the Penguins make a run and get Malkin back in the lineup too, watch out!
